Central Whidbey Island Fire & Rescue (CWIFR) is a fire protection district formed under Title 52 of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW). As a fire district, CWIFR is an independent municipal entity and not part of the county or town government. The district is governed by a three-member Board of Fire Commissioners each of whom serves a six-year term.
Fire Commissioners
CWIFR’s commissioners are members of the Washington State Fire Commissioners Association. The association maintains an active lobbying presence and represents the interests of fire districts throughout the state of Washington.
The Regular Meeting of the Board of Fire Commissioners is held at 5:00 pm on the second Thursday of the month at CWIFR Headquarters which is located at 1164 Race Road in Coupeville, WA.

The Central Whidbey Island Fire & Rescue Board of Fire Commissioners believes that a transparent and accountable government requires that the business of the District be open to effective public review. As such, documentation of governance and financial operations of the district are readily available.

The agenda for the board of fire commissioners’ regular meeting is posted on the Monday before the meeting held on the second Thursday of the month.
The agenda for the previous meeting will be posted until a new agenda is established for the next meeting. We try to have the updated meeting agenda out a week prior to the meeting.

The district is bound by many laws, regulations, and other legal requirements. Because of this, the Central Whidbey Island Fire & Rescue Board of Fire Commissioners has developed a policy manual to guide board members in the conduct of district business to provide the best and most ethical service to the community.
